Who is eligible for an Individual and Family Plan from Jefferson Health Plans?


You may qualify if:

• You don't have health insurance through an employer, or you've recently lost coverage.

• You want affordable, quality coverage through an Individual and Family plan.

You are eligible to enroll if:

• You are a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or have a qualifying immigration status.

• You are not incarcerated.

• You do not have Medicare coverage.

Know When You Can Enroll

  1. Enroll During the Annual Open Enrollment Period (OEP)

    November 1–January 15.


  2. Outside of Open Enrollment – if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

    If you recently lost medical insurance coverage or experienced another qualifying event in the past 60 days, a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) lets you enroll in a new health plan immediately, even if it is outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period.

    Qualifying Special Enrollment Period Events

    • Loss of employer health insurance
    • Marriage or divorce
    • Adopting a child
    • Moving from one insurance coverage to another
    • Changing your immigration status
    • Turning 26 years of age (or the maximum dependent age allowed in your state) and can no longer be on a parent's health plan
    • Other major life changes

Next Steps

Whether you enroll directly through Jefferson Health Plans, through Pennie®, Pennsylvania's official health insurance marketplace, or a broker, you need to make your initial premium payment, also called a binder payment, to activate your coverage. Learn how to make a payment.

After enrolling, you'll receive a confirmation letter, and in a few weeks you will receive your insurance card in the mail, along with more information about your benefits.

The Open Enrollment Period for Individual and Family Plans runs from November 1 to January 15.

In most cases, you can only enroll in an Individual and Family Plan during the Open Enrollment Period.
