Please schedule an appointment with your adolescent patients to emphasize the importance of preventive care and to build a trusting relationship that will help guide them toward healthy habits for adulthood.
Ensuring adolescents have access to high-quality health care is essential for preventing health risks and enabling early intervention. As a primary care provider, you play a key role in supporting adolescents’ development into healthy adults.
In the United States, many teens undervalue annual checkups which provide preventive care and general assessments, despite adolescents having unique needs. Fewer than half report discussions on mental or sexual health, often avoiding sensitive topics due to fear or stigma. Since risky behaviors like substance use, unprotected sex, poor diet, and inactivity often start in adolescence, high-quality care and early intervention are critical to prevent long-term health issues.*
Reminder: Annual well-visits don’t need to be exactly 365 days apart. Members are eligible for one well visit each calendar year.
