Prediabetes

More than 1 in 3 adults in the United States has prediabetes. Prediabetes raises the risk of type 2 diabetes and other health problems. With prediabetes, blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Prediabetes is a serious health condition that increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

Signs/Symptoms of Prediabetes

You can have prediabetes for years but have no symptoms. It often is unnoticed until serious health problems such as type 2 diabetes show up. To see if you are at risk for prediabetes, take this online quiz: Prediabetes Risk Test.

Diabetes Prevention Programs

Type 2 diabetes can usually be delayed or prevented with health behavior changes. The Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) is a lifestyle change program to help participants at risk for type 2 diabetes make healthy lifestyle choices and achieve weight loss. Throughout the program, you will learn how to increase physical activity, eat healthily, and lose weight to help prevent or delay diabetes.
